Accommodations

You have two great options:

  • Stay on Marstrand or the neighbouring island, Koön (do not stay on other Islands you can only reach them by boat)

  • (Note: there is a short 3 minuets ferry from Koön to Marstrand.

  • It is pedestrian-only and runs frequently.

  • The islands are so close, you could swim across the canal—but maybe don’t.
Taxi is very difficult to get unless you are traveling long distance so

  • make sure the hotel or Airbnb on Koön is no further away than 1-2k

from the ferry dock as you will need to walk home from the party. Everywhere on the Marstrand island is fine to stay. It is walking distance everywhere.

  • Recommended hotels are:

  • Soldathotellet (The big fortress on top of the island. It can only be booked by phone or email

  • Maritime, Nautic, Kurhotellet, Grand Hotel, Havshotellet or Airbnb. It might be good to call the hotels as not all rooms are listed and they might have rooms on hold for wedding parties which won’t be used.Il

  • Boat :) Hopefully some of you will arrive with your own boats. Please let me know a few days ahead and I’ll try to arrange so all of you will be docked close to each other.

  • Gothenburg, about an hour away by car, Sweden’s second largest city and my home town ;) If you stay in Gothenburg there are plenty of choices of hotels.

How to Get to Marstrand from Gothenburg Central Station

  • Public transport Take a train to Ytterby, then a connecting bus to Marstrand (about 1 hour total). They go every our and the bus waits for the train and cost about €7 one way. You can find the schedule at: https://www.vasttrafik.se Type in Gothenburg Central station to Marstrands färjeläger.

  • Private buss firm: Leaves every 2 hours from Gothenburg central and cost about €10 one way. https://marstrandexpress.se

  • By car use google maps and park on Koön. There are parkings on the right side when arriving. Then walk onto the ferry

  • Taxi, Uber, Bolt are all working for long distance. Bolt is the cheapest taxi service and it works great. Getting an Uber or Bolt to Mastrand won’t be a problem. It will be difficult to get taxis back from Marstrand unless you are going all the way back  to Gothenburg but it might be expensive so share with someone.

  • The Ferry over to mastrand is easy peasy and by foot. It cost €4 back and forth. If you are staying at Koön it might be worth it to take the day pass.

  • The final leg to the fortress Strandverket is by foot—Marstrand has no cars and cobblestones everywhere, so bring ballerinas/sandals for the way home. When you get off the ferry turn to your left and walk straight until you reach the end of the “road”. You can’t miss the fortress it.
If you are arriving by plane you can either fly to Gothenburg Landvetter airport or the city airport, there is a shuttle bus from Landvetter airport to the city. Or fly to Copenhagen and take the train up to Gothenburg. The train takes about 3 hours and cost about €35. It leaves every hour. The local train is skanetraffiken or the fast train ( less frequent and more expensive) www.sj.se make sure it is an SJ train. If it says Öresundståg, it will be the same local train only more expensive when booking through SJ.SE
